The BAUS Section of Endourology, in association with the DIHS, Dundee, would like to invite you to participate in a forthcoming Laparoscopic Training Course. The course will be held in our superb training venue located at Ninewells Hospital & Medical School, Dundee, Scotland.
This 2 day course provides urological trainees hands-on opportunity to train laparoscopic skills up to intermediate level and builds on core techniques up to the rehearsal of laparoscopic nephrectomy, pyeloplasty and partial nephrectomy on animal tissue models. Suitable for SpR 1 or above and consultants who wish to adopt these techniques. The course uses specially designed training animal tissue phantoms and virtual reality simulation. Close supervision is provided by expert urologists.

The Portsmouth Colorectal team invite you to join us for the first edition of our online Surgical Research Teaching course. This online, weekly four-part event aims to give you a foundation in research through sharing our practical experience and knowledge, to make it easier for enthusiastic and ambitious clinicians without prior experience to start participating in research. Over these four weeks we will guide you through the basics of statistical knowledge, the principles and benefits of audits and Quality Improvement projects, the essentials of writing a manuscript and publishing a paper, and how to present and disseminate your research. Attendance is free, but prior registration through our Eventbrite page is mandatory:
If you attend at least 3 out of 4 sessions, we will provide you with a certificate confirming your attendance. This course is aimed at any clinician with an interest in research, and we hope to see you all there ! The platform used will be Zoom.

It is designed to concentrate on laparoscopic bile duct exploration. The first day covers evidence for practice, patient selection, surgical techniques, the pitfalls of starting a service, getting the right equipment. Also discussed is the management of acute presentation and integration of surgical service and ERCP. As well as lectures live link surgery will be used for interactive discussion. The second day is workshop based concentrating on laparoscopic suturing, choledocoscopes and bile duct instruments and a highly recommended LCBDE wet lab model.

| Course objectives | Advanced procedure–based course highlighting the technical and logistical aspects of one session laparoscopic exploration of the bile duct. The course is designed for consultant surgeons and senior trainees who have mastered the skills of routine and emergency laparoscopic cholecystectomy and may already have experience with intra-operative cholangiography. The candidates are made familiar with the technical aspects through short interactive talks. The course has a major practical hands-on component with opportunity to practice cholangiography, trans-cystic duct cannulation and exploration, choledochotomy exploration and various methods of biliary drainage. There will be emphasis on the handling and optimal use of 3mm & 5mm choledochoscopes. Well designed animal tissue models allow for task repetition and skills development and consolidation. Adequate time is dedicated to detailed discussions of technical aspects utilising extensive video material from more than 800 Laparoscopic bile duct explorations. ISCP curriculum considers bile duct exploration a mandatory procedure and the technical skills required for ST6 (level 3) to ST8 (level 4) |
