A New Vision for Excellence: A Message from Your New Chair
Dear Colleagues and Fellow Members of the ALRTS,
It is with a profound sense of pride and responsibility that I address you as the newly appointed Chair of the Association of Laparoscopic and Robotic Theatre Staff (ALRTS-SOUTH).
With over 31 years of clinical leadership and surgical operations experience—including my formative tenure at Royal Free Theatres—I have dedicated my career to the evolution of the operating theatre. Today, as we navigate a landscape increasingly defined by technological precision, I am more committed than ever to ensuring that our Association remains the only dedicated body exclusively focused on the unique challenges and triumphs of laparoscopic and robotic theatre professionals.
Our Strategic Priorities
My Chairmanship is built upon a clear vision: to elevate our profession and ensure every member is equipped to lead in the modern surgical environment. To achieve this, I have set the following key priorities:
Pioneering Professional Development: We will expand access to high-quality training, developing specialized modules and “hands-on” workshops that keep our members at the cutting edge of surgical innovation.
Fostering Radical Collaboration: By breaking down professional silos, we will promote a culture of mutual respect and interdisciplinary training, ensuring that surgeons, nurses, operating department practitioners, and support staff work as a unified, elite team.
Fearless Advocacy: I will be a tireless voice for our community at the policy level, working with hospital administrators and stakeholders to ensure your contributions are recognized, valued, and appropriately supported.
Driving Innovation through Research: We will collaborate with industry partners and researchers to evaluate new technologies, ensuring that theatre staff are not just users of innovation, but key drivers of its implementation.
Shaping Our Future: The ALRTS Digital Transformation
To fulfil our goal of being a vibrant, global hub for knowledge, we are currently undergoing a total transformation of the ALRTS digital platform. This is more than just a website update; it is the creation of a dynamic forum for knowledge sharing, online learning, and real-time troubleshooting. I encourage every one of you to engage with this transformation. Your feedback and participation will turn this platform into a collective resource where we can share best practices and innovative ideas that directly improve patient outcomes.
Save the Date: The Upcoming Scientific Meeting
I am also thrilled to invite you to our Scientific Meeting on December 7 and 8. This event will be a cornerstone of our inaugural year as Chair. It is a vital opportunity for us to connect, network, and immerse ourselves in the latest advancements in minimally invasive surgery. We will be hosting expert-led sessions, showcasing the latest medical technologies, and discussing the future of our craft. Your presence is essential as we work together to set the standard for excellence in our field.
The strength of the ALRTS lies in your dedication and expertise. I am eager to bring my leadership and passion to this role, but I cannot do it alone. I invite you to join me in this new chapter—by engaging with our new digital home, attending our meetings, and continuing to provide the world-class care that defines our profession.
I look forward to meeting many of you on December 7 and 8 as we move forward together.
In partnership and with purpose,
Emelia Geraldine Gagasa
Chairman, Association of Laparoscopic and Robotic Theatre Staff (ALRTS-SOUTH)
