Please complete our brief 15-minute survey on Intraoperative Behaviours for a chance to a MacBook Air ! This survey is being conducted by the Intraoperative Behaviours Research Group, consisting of researchers from the University of the Fraser Valley (UFV) and collaborating institutions. This group previously conducted the most extensive survey study on the topic of disruptive behaviour (involving ~7,500 clinician responses across 7 countries), which resulted in many original peer-reviewed articles and several invited reviews. Several of the publications resulted in Altmetric scores >50-60 (in the top 3% of 21.2 million studies measured with regard to social media attention).
Disruptive behaviour ranges from mild incivility to egregious abuse, and it often occurs in the operating room. Previous research has overlooked surgeons’ perspectives on this issue and has instead relied on assumptions about their role in this behavior. We are interested in hearing about the experiences of all clinicians in the operating room. The aim of the research is to better understand the types of institutional cultures that lead to the behaviour and identify novel ways to prevent the behavior.
Upon completion of the survey, you will have the opportunity to enter a ballot for the chance to win a MacBook Air. The value of the MacBook Air is approximately $1,300 CAD. The odds of winning will depend on the number of participants who chose to take part in the draw, but we estimate that the odds will be 1/1000.
