Our courses (robotic and laparoscopic) are open to all surgeons, even if the text of an individual posting refers to Trainee or Consultant Surgeons only, Fellows and Specialty Doctors are equally welcome. For any enquiries, please use the contact information in the individual posting. For all ALSGBI-badged courses, attendees must bring evidence of identity eg credit/debit card. 

Introduction to Gastrointestinal Endoscopy course, Colchester – 16th January 2026

This course offers extended simulation sessions with expert guidance to allow trainees to confidently handle and control the endoscopes.  There are also theoretical sessions on the history of endoscopy, patient preparation and consent, analgesia and sedation, common pathology, and equipment functionality.

Course Structure

The course closely mimics the FRCS viva exam format, providing:

  • Mock viva circuits, each with 3- 4 clinical scenarios.
  • Each scenario lasts 5 minutes, followed by 5 minutes of structured feedback.
  • Candidates receive scores and detailed feedback per scenario.
  • Candidates will have the opportunity to move through all viva stations
  • Additional feedback sessions are available upon request.
  • Depends on time allocations; candidates may do multiple turns on same day
