ALS Membership - How to Join the ALS

Reasons to join ALS
  • The Association has evolved for those with an interest in minimal access surgery and strives to support the development of clinical services, education and training. The parallel session at the annual ASGBI Meeting is for both trainee and consultant surgeons. Its extremely popular stand alone Autumn meeting includes live operating and academic sessions as well as dedicated skills training for trainee members.
  • The ALS supports trainee and consultant surgeons in developing their surgical repertoires, and champions the best possible standards in higher surgical training.
  • The Laparoscopic Colorectal Surgery Preceptorship Programme is a joint initiative between the ALS and ACPGBI. It is directed at training established consultant surgeons in laparoscopic colorectal surgery. It remains active in Wales, Scotland and Ireland: For further information please contact Jenny Treglohan (ALS) on + 44 (0)20 7973 0305.
  • As part of its commitment to promote the highest standards the ALS has developed confidential clinical databases to allow comparative audit.
  • Use of these laparoscopic databases in upper and lower GI laparoscopic disease is provided free to ALS members.
  • ALS actively assesses hospital provision of laparoscopic equipment and compiles a national audit to inform and advise on acceptable standards.
  • Affiliate membership of the Association is available for nurses and other theatre personnel. The Association of Laparoscopic Theatre Staff (ALTS) holds parallel meetings.
  • Fellowships are available for training to allow members to visit centres abroad and foreign surgeons to visit centres of excellence in the UK and Ireland.
  • Discount for members on Annual Scientific Meeting fees.
