2011 ACCEA Clinical Excellence Awards
Dear ALS Member
Submissions for the 2011 round of ACCEA are now imminent. In addition to any direct submission, you may also wish to consider enlisting the support of ALS.
As a professional organisation we are allowed to support candidates in proportion to the size of our membership. Although the online application to ACCEA does not have to be in until 5:00pm on Friday 10th December 2010 the supporting societies have to submit their ranking list to the RCS and ASGBI by 3rd September 2010.
Unfortunately the results of the 2009 awards allocation will not be available until August 2010 so people that have already applied for that round will need to apply to the ALS for this year before knowing their result. Application forms for this year’s round can be obtained from Jenny Treglohan (email: Jenny@asgbi.org.uk)
The ALS sub-committee is chaired by Mr Michael Rhodes, President of ALS and includes Mr Mark Vipond (Honorary Secretary), Professor Tim Rockall (Director of Education), Mr Tim Justin (Anglian Regional Representative), together with a lay member, Ms Lucy Davies.
If you would like ALS to consider your nomination please submit the initial assessment form by our deadline of midnight Wednesday August 11th 2010. Completed forms should be sent to jenny@asgbi.org.uk
Any late submissions will NOT be considered.
As a guideline I would emphasise some unwritten rules.
• You are unlikely to get an award within the first 10 years of appointment as a Consultant
• You are unlikely to achieve a higher award without the full support of the Chief Executive of your Trust. In addition you should have already obtained 5 or 6 local discretionary points.
• You are unlikely to receive a higher national award within 5 years of your present national award.
• We at ALS will wish to support those who have contributed significantly to the success of our organisation, as well as those who have demonstrated exceptional work in research and teaching at national level.
As ever with this process there are far greater numbers of outstanding candidates compared with the number of awards that can be given. Please be patient, as the more able candidates invariably get their rewards in due course.
Best Wishes

Mr Mark Vipond,
Honorary Secretary,
ALSGBI
