NBSR First Registry Report 2010

April 2011 - MEDIA RELEASE:

Bariatric Surgery Report 2010Message from Michael Rhodes, President of ALS

It is my great pleasure as President of ALS and also a member of NBSR and BOMSS Councils to introduce members of the ALS to the first National Bariatric Surgery Registry Report. It has been a great pleasure working with Alberic Fiennes, President of BOMSS and Richard Welbourn who is the ALS audit lead. Richard has worked tirelessly to set up the database. Through the goodwill of Alberic and the Presidents of AUGIS, Simon Paterson-Brown and Graeme Poston, there has been excellent tripartite support for this endeavour.

The first report covers patients entered between January 2009 and March 2010. The report, compiled by Dendrite with academic input from Richard Welbourn and Alberic Fiennes, presents unparalleled data on over 7000 patients. As well as details of weight loss, there is emerging data about the resolution of co-morbidities such as Type II diabetes and sleep apnoea. The contents of the report are under strict embargo until 13 April 2011, but from that date the BOMSS, AUGIS and ALS websites will direct those who wish to obtain a copy of the report to the Dendrite distribution point www.e-dendrite.com/nbsr.
