Abstract Submission & Prize
Abstracts are invited from surgeons and laparoscopic theatre staff, and may be submitted online at www.alsgbi.org. The closing date for the submission of abstracts is Friday 12 September 2008. Papers that have been short-listed will be presented in the Short Paper Sessions on Friday 21 November at 09:10–10:00 & 14:00- 14:50.

The winner of the best oral abstract will be presented with a cheque for £600 generously sponsored by Covidien. The announcement of the ‘2008 ALS Annual Scientific Meeting Short Paper Prize’ in association with Covidien ‘Partners in Education’ will be made at 15:50 on Friday 21 November just before the Closing Remarks.

Markers will be looking for:

  • Abstract quality (clear objectives, design, discussion and appropriate conclusion)
  • Originality
  • Scientific merit


DVD Submission Guidelines & Prize
DVDs are invited from both surgeons and laparoscopic theatre staff. DVDs should be submitted to:

The closing date for the submission of DVDs is Friday 12 September 2008. DVDs should be a total of 3 minutes duration maximum with 2 minutes for discussion afterwards. Only ‘in-house’ productions will be accepted and ‘voiceover’ is optional.

The winner of the best DVD will be presented with a cheque for £250 generously sponsored by Covidien. The announcement of the ‘2008 ALS Annual Scientific Meeting DVD Prize’ in association with Coviden ‘Partners in Education’ will be made at 15:50 on Friday 21 November just before the Closing Remarks.


Poster Exhibition & Prize
The Poster Exhibition will take place in the Industry Exhibition Arena from 08:00 on Thursday 20 November until 14:00 on Friday 21 November 2008. The maximum area available for each poster will be 1m width x 2m length (portrait style). Posters must be attached securely to the display boards with Velcro, which will be provided. Pins, nails or other methods of adhesion must not be used.

All posters will be judged on Thursday (between 12:00 & 14:00), when one of the authors must be in attendance by their poster. The winner of the best poster will be presented with a cheque for £150, kindly sponsored by Covidien.

The announcement at the ‘2008 ALS Annual Scientific Meeting Poster Prize’ in association with Coviden ‘Partners in Education’ will be made at 15.50 on Friday 21 November just before the Closing Remarks. Please ensure your posters are displayed by 08:00 on Thursday 20 November.
