The ALSGBI Laparoscopic Surgery Training Day offers a unique opportunity for a dedicated full day of hands-on practical training from top class ALSGBI & WIMAT Faculty. Trainees will have the opportunity to spend a day in the company of experts in their chosen field of either colorectal or upper GI surgery. Training will be in the form of ‘state of the art’ tutorials and ‘hands on’ practical skills in laparoscopy. Participants will have an opportunity to develop techniques of laparoscopic suturing and stapling in both a simulated and natural tissue environment. In keeping with the overall theme of the meeting there will be an opportunity to discuss new innovations and techniques to manage unexpected situations.
The Training Day is designed for trainee upper, lower and general gastrointestinal surgeons from CT2 to ST8 levels of surgical training, although applicants will be asked to express a subspecialty interest. There will be a high faculty to trainee ratio to ensure individualised learning needs are met. There will also be an opportunity during the day to practice LapPass skills, in anticipation of booking a test session at the ALSGBI Annual Scientific Meeting. Applicants should state their sub-specialty, their current level of training at application and any specific individual training preferences they may have for this rare opportunity. Early applications, with strong evidence of a commitment to laparoscopic surgery, will be an advantage in a competitive application process. Places will be limited to 24 and are expected to go very quickly for this unique training opportunity. Please contact Mrs Jennifer Treglohan (firstname.lastname@example.org) initially for an application form. Applicants must be current ALSGBI Trainee Members and registered for the 2 day ALSGBI Annual Scientific Meeting in Cardiff There is no additional fee for attending the Training Day. The closing date for applications is 1 October 2017. In the event of a cancellation please notify us immediately so that the place can be reallocated.
