President's Message

Dear Association members and potential delegates,

Preparations are well under way for the ALSGBI Annual Scientific Meeting in Southport on the 26 and 27 November. There will be an ALSGBI Laparoscopic Surgery Training Day immediately prior to the meeting on 25th November, please see the information under Training Day for details on how to apply. The day will be held at Broadgreen Hospital and limited to 24 trainees.

The ALSGBI Annual Scientific Meeting will follow our successful format of live operating on the first day with a broad range of upper GI, bariatric, colorectal and abdominal wall surgery. The second day will feature a symposium on the use of mesh in abdominal surgery which is currently arousing much controversy. Speakers will discuss mesh in the upper abdomen, pelvis and abdominal wall. A speaker from the MPS will provide a medico-legal viewpoint. Prof Steven DeMeester from University of Southern California will be the BJS visiting lecturer. There will be prize sessions for the best paper and DVD.

Please look around this conference microsite for all the details of the meeting including abstract submission, registration and hotel booking. We look forward to seeing you there.

Mr Mark Vipond
President, ALSGBI
